Alliance for Integrated Engineering Education (A4IE)
Bylaws
ARTICLE I
Section 1 – Name and Purpose
1.1. The official designation for this entity shall be the Alliance for Integrated Engineering Education (A4IE).
1.2. The purpose of the A4IE is:
To provide support and advice to alliance members on various matters related to advancing an integrative engineering program both within their institutions and outside of the alliance.
1.3. The A4IE will bring value to the following strategic areas:
· Integrative Engineering Education
· Advocacy for similar programs throughout the USA
· Strategic direction for enhancing Integrative Engineering Education
1.4. The A4IE promotes the regular exchange of information and ideas and operates within the previously defined areas under the direction of the members of the A4IE.
ARTICLE II Section 2 – Membership and Composition
2.1. The A4IE is composed of 6 to 12 members.
2.2. Majority vote of current members determines membership of the A4IE per the following principles:
· Must be a Program lead/Director
· Must lead an Integrated Undergraduate Engineering BS Degree
· Must be at a State University
· Must be a program with strong student agency
· Preferred that it reside within a large college/school of engineering at a State University
2.3. The members may nominate and elect a Chair.
2.4. The members will meet every 8-9 months, but flexibility is subject to the members’ vote.
2.5. The chair and members will review a member’s continued membership if a member is absent from two consecutive meetings.
ARTICLE III Section 3 – Meetings and Governance
3.1. A4IE typically meets for one and one-half days on one of the member’s campus, with virtual meetings and virtual attendance strongly discouraged.
3.2. At the prior meeting, A4IE members decide which 2 to 3 members will determine the agenda for the subsequent meeting, with the host member being the leader of the planning committee.
ARTICLE IV
Section 4 – Responsibilities
4.1. Members advise on priorities, directions, and new frontiers for integrated engineering education and its advancement.
4.2. Suggest strategies that A4IE might employ to achieve its goals.
4.3. Offer guidance to members within and outside of A4IE on existing and proposed integrated engineering academic initiatives.
4.4. Propose ways to maintain strong relations with the other universities, societies, and ABET to establish effective partnerships.
4.5. Help sustain and enhance the national reputation of A4IE.
